Why Go Solar
India is an energy deficient country and to meet its increasing energy demands, depends predominantly on greenhouse gas emitting thermal power plants thatruns on coal and imported fuel.
Solar Energy is an important energy resource in India with the potential to increase the security of India’s energy supply.
India can generate potentially 1,900 billion kWh of Solar Energy every year. As per estimates, this much of energy is enough for overall energy requirement and consumption in the country even in 2030.
Through Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM), Government of India has set an ambitious target of deploying 20,000 MW of grid connected solar power by 2022 and providing various incentives and duty concessions for both manufacturers and users of solar products. - Grid-connected system– Connected to the electricity grid(Solar parks, Rooftop solar projects, Canal top projects, etc.).
- Off-Grid system– Standalone or decentralized systems not connected to the electricity grid (Village electrification and mini-grids, Solar powered telecom towers, Solar driven machinery in Small & Medium-sized Enterprises (SME), street lights, Solar pumps, Solar heating/cooling,Solar lanterns, Mobile chargers, etc.).
Net metering is a billing mechanism that credits Grid-ConnectedSolar PV system owners for the electricity they add to the electricity grid.
This excess energy if fed into the grid will earn him a predetermined credit under Net metering facility as per terms of Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with local Electricity Distribution Company.
Return of Investments
The cost of installation depends on various parameters like type of system (off-grid / hybrid / grid connected), size and features of inverter, rating of panels, battery capacity, site conditions, cabling requirement etc. The return on investment in terms of payback starts from as low as 3 years depending on local utility tariff, eligibility of depreciation benefit and type of system.
In case of grid connected systems in States where Net Metering facility is available, coordination with local Electricity Distribution Company will be necessary for approval and installation of bi-directional meters. The cost of a grid connected system is generally lower compared to off-grid system because of elimination of batteries.
